2015-2016 DG Ineke Wilson
Rotary Theme: Be a Gift to the World
Ineke Wilson, a native of the Netherlands, moved to the US in 1981 and became a citizen in 1999. She joined Rotary as a charter member of the Ballantyne club. Before leading the charter of the Huntersville Happy Hour club and serving as its charter Club President, Ineke was a member of the Charlotte-Evening club. Ineke has 10 years perfect attendance, is a graduate of Rotary Leadership Institute, and has been recognized as a Distinguished Rotarian.
With a passion for Youth Service, Ineke has served as the District Interact Chair and has played a significant role in Seminar For Tomorrow’s Leaders (a RYLA program) as a facilitator and program director. She has served as Aide to the Governor and as Assistant Governor (3 years) for which she was recognized as Outstanding Assistant Governor (2013).
A strong supporter of The Rotary Foundation, Ineke is a Paul Harris Fellow, a Sustaining Member, and a member of the Paul Harris Society. She chaired a district social which raised $75,000 for Rotary’s Polio Plus campaign and also participated in a district team climb of Mount Kilimanjaro which collectively raised over 100,000 for Polio Plus.
An ardent traveler, Ineke has visited 47 countries on 6 continents. She has walked the Vierdaagse twice, a 100 mile march in Holland, for which she was awarded the Queen’s Medal, and also climbed Machu Pichu (Peru). In addition to traveling, Ineke enjoys fly-fishing, sailing and time with family and friends. She is a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.
Ineke is founder and owner of The World in Our Backyard, LLC, a cultural enrichment program that serves over 25,000 elementary students each year. Using her degree in Education from the University of Amsterdam and her extensive travel experience, Ineke has developed an interactive curriculum that allows the students to experience the history and cultures of foreign countries, North Carolina and the Native Americans.
Ineke is married to Bob Wilson, Past District Governor 2008-2009, and together they have 4 daughters and six grandchildren.
