Rotary Theme: The Future of Rotary Is in Your Hands
Karen joined the Rotary Club of Cabarrus County in 1998, served as president in 2002-3, and then transferred to Mooresville in 2006. Prior to her year as Governor, she served District 7680 as an Assistant Governor for three years, as District Trainer for two years, as CART Fund coordinator for six years, and Rotary Leadership Institute faculty member & coordinator.
Her Rotary mission travels include Romania & Peru, and she has attended the International Conventions in Chicago, Denmark-Sweden, Los Angeles, England and Montreal, Canada.
Karen’s work with the CART (Coins for Alzheimers Research Trust) Fund, Inc. Board of Directors began in 2003 and she served as president in 2007-8. The board is comprised of Rotarians representing the 11 participating districts and she has been re-elected as vice-president for 2010-11. Karen is a Paul Harris Society member, TRF Bequest Society member and her son, Christopher, is a Paul Harris Fellow & Rotaract member.
Her full-time vocation is with the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce as their President/CEO. Throughout her career, Karen has been noted as an advocate for business. She currently sits on the MSI Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, the Mooresville Downtown Commission, the Lowe’s Hometown Grants Advisory Board, the United Family Services Advisory Council, & the Mitchell Community College Endowment Council.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Appalachian State University and is a graduate of the Institute of Organizational Management at Colorado College. She believes in continuous personal development and loves opportunity to coach & encourage others.
Karen and Christopher are active members of First Presbyterian Church, where she serves on the Board of Elders & as Chair of the Personnel/Administration Committee. They are both sports enthusiasts and enjoy spending time with friends & family.
