District Governor Elect 2017-2018 Scott Van Der Linden
World Championship Committee 2001-2004 (Charlotte-South was the host club for the IGFR World Championship, supported by all area clubs). While serving as President, Charlotte-South earned the Mark Markanda Trophy for the district’s Best Club under 50 Members, the Presidential Citation, the District Community Service Award and the District Club Bulletin Award.
He was a member of the Charlotte Area Joint Rotary Council, and served as President 1997-1998. This entailed organizing and presiding over monthly breakfasts with Charlotte area Rotary Presidents and President-elects, and chairing the Council’s annual joint luncheon for 500+ Charlotte area Rotarians.
Between 2003 and 2014, Scott served seven terms as District Membership or Extension Chairman, Co-Chairman or Advocate. He is currently the District Governor Nominee Designate, and will be the District Governor 2017-2018. He is a Distinguished Rotarian Award Recipient, Benefactor, Multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Sustaining Member, Bequest Society Member and has Prefect Attendance since 1992. In 2012 Scott and Judy supported Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign by raising funds and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro with Team 7680 (we made history). Yet Scott believes his most significant contribution to Rotary has been helping charter 14 new clubs, and then mentoring three through their early years.
A native of Rockville, MD, he earned a BS from East Carolina University in 1979, and an MBA from the McColl School of Business at Queens University of Charlotte in 1983. Scott played rugby for East Carolina; followed by Boston, Charlotte and Dallas.
In a previous career, Scott earned his CFC or Certified Forms Consultant, and served the National Business Forms Association in multiple capacities, most significantly as a member of the CFC Board of Directors 1988-1991. He also served the Business Forms Management Association as the local Vice President, earning Regional Outstanding Member of the Year in 1988.
Scott now pursues his passion for positively impacting others as a CFP® or CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ with Veritus Financial Strategies, (his own practice). Years of experience with closely-held businesses qualifies him to serve their unique needs; in addition to the needs of individuals and families.
Scott and Judy together they have five children, two son-in-laws and six grandchildren. Scott and Judy are members of Providence Country Club and Forest Hill Church-where he serves as Security Captain of the Ballantyne campus.
