2017-2018 District Governor Scott Van Der Linden
2017-2018 Rotary Theme: Make a Difference
Scott has been a member of the Rotary Club of Charlotte-South since 1992. While serving as President in 1996-1997, Charlotte-South earned the Mark Markanda Trophy for the district’s Best Club under 50 Members and the Presidential Citation.
He served as President of the Charlotte Area Joint Rotary Council in 1997-1998. Between 2003 and 2014, Scott served seven terms as District Membership or Extension Chairman, serves on the District Conference, District Foundation and Finance Committees, chaired the Annual Fund subcommittee. He is a Distinguished Rotarian Award Recipient, Bequest Society Member, Paul Harris Fellow, Paul Harris Society Member, Major Donor and RLI Graduate; and has Prefect Attendance since 1992.
In 2012 Scott and Judy supported Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign by raising funds and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro with Team 7680. Yet Scott believes his most significant contribution to Rotary has been helping charter 14 new clubs, and then mentoring three through their early years.
A native of Rockville, MD, he earned a BS from East Carolina University in 1979, and an MBA from the McColl School of Business at Queens University of Charlotte in 1983. Scott played rugby for the East Carolina University Pirates; followed by Boston Old Gold, Charlotte Olde Originals and the Dallas Reds.
In a previous career, Scott earned his CFC or Certified Forms Consultant, and served the National Business Forms Association in multiple capacities, most significantly as a member of the CFC Board of Directors from 1988-1991. He also served the Business Forms Management Association as the local Vice President, earning the 1988 Outstanding Member of the Year.
He now pursues his passion for positively impacting others as a CFP® or CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ with Veritus Financial Strategies, (his own practice).
Scott proposed to Judy in 2001 at a Rotary Valentine's Day social, (Judy had already hosted a GSE student from Brazil in 1999-shortly after they began dating)! Together they have five children, two son-in-laws and six grandchildren. When Judy is not spoiling their Grandchildren, she is a Manager for Dynamic Communities Inc., an association of Microsoft User Groups worldwide. Scott and Judy are members of Forest Hill Church-Ballantyne; where Judy serves in the Children’s Ministry and Scott serves in Security.
