Rotary Distric 7680 and Charlotte AYSO Launch Youth Soccer Program at 13 Sites in Charlotte
The opportunity to touch the lives of Charlotte's youth, and connect our communities, has inspired Charlotte Rotary/District 7680 to team up with the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), which serves 500,000 children in the U.S.A. The newly-formed Charlotte AYSO is a multi-site, city-wide youth soccer program for children ages 5 to under 12.
Charlotte AYSO is supported by a unique public/private partnership that includes Rotary, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, Mecklenburg County Parks & Recreation, Creative Player Sports, Charlotte Chamber of Commerce Soccer Task Force, ISL Futbol, HTA, Johnson C. Smith University, UNC Charlotte and Rotaract (Queens University/UNCC).
The national office of AYSO is excited to expand in the Charlotte area with the goal of making a premier soccer program accessible to all youth in Charlotte, regardless of their zip code or economic background. Beginning in the spring of 2017, Charlotte AYSO will launch 13 soccer sites all over Charlotte. Michael Hover, AYSO's National Executive Director, estimates that Charlotte AYSO has the potential of registering 10,000 new players over the next 3 years.
For a successful launch, Rotary clubs can help with the 650 volunteer coaches and referees needed from March 12, 2017 through the end of May 2017.
